Abstract
Every day millions of people struggle to get through everyday life due to total or partial visual impairment. A device to assist in the movement of blind people is proposed. Images will be taken on the camera module that is mounted to the Raspberry Pi on the walking stick and then sent to a server for pre-processing to improve quality. The resulting images are sent to the IBM Watson cloud via Wi-Fi hotspot to detect objects in front of the user. The recognition information is processed and relayed to the user by text-to-speech. An ultrasonic sensor is used to gather distance data and determine if any object to close to the user. The device can tell the user what object is in front of them and if it is an immediate threat.
