Abstract
In this report we present a footstep power generator that will be able to charge up a battery by converting the mechanical energy produced by footsteps to electrical energy, using a rack and pinion arrangement. Due to the brisk consumption of the main fossil source of energy (oil), it is crucial to search for other sources of energy. Also, the global pollution due to conventional sources of energy moves scientists to search for other sources of green energy. One viable and green source of energy is the power generation from the human footsteps. This research work aims to design and test a simple device that transforms the kinetic energy of the human footsteps to electrical energy. This device may be used in crowded places with a big number of pedestrians such as mosques, churches, underground stations, over-bridges, stadiums, etc. This technique of energy harvesting is suitable for applications such as street lighting, advertising boards, and information displays. The device will be efficiently designed, fabricated and tested.
