Abstract
Bangladesh, which was once a mostly forested country is facing various environmental problems including deforestation and over-exploitation of farming lands. Regular assessment and monitoring could help resolve these problems. The current positioning of Landsat satellites (i.e. Landsat 8) could assist in efficiently studying the land condition and taking immediate actions. This study aims to analyze the image data collected by Landsat 8 satellite to identify the vegetation change in various areas of Bangladesh. These data are processed to calculate two vegetation indices (VI): NVDI and GCI and demonstrates the percentage change in vegetation in various divisions of Bangladesh over the years of 2013 to 2019. A prediction of change in NDVI and GCI in the year 2020 and comparison with real data is also presented in this study.
