Abstract
The objective of this effort is to develop an accessible input method to drive single-pointer computer devices (such as personal computers, smart TVs, ATMs, or single-touch smartphones) without coming into contact with them. Other than the obvious advantages of contactless systems during the COVID-19 pandemic, this project aims also to cater to the disabled (e.g. those lacking use of their arms), and to home automation enthusiasts. The core concept is that a target computer will be optically tracking an object in its visual range, and using it to manipulate the on-screen pointer by translating the 2D movement of the object. The object may be a nose, a marked spot on a face mask, an eye, etc. It can be used alongside existing input methods and aims to be reliable, intuitive, and easy to use for the average person.
