Javed Muneer Ahmad re-elected as chairman of NSU Board of Trustees

Mr. Javed Muneer Ahmad has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of North South University (NSU) Trust for 2024-2025, effective from 1 July 2024. The announcement was made during the 13th Annual General Meeting of the NSU Trust on Sunday (30 June), reads a press release. This marks Mr. Javed Ahmad’s second term as Chairman following the Chancellor's appointment of the reconstituted NSU Board on August 16, 2022. A founding member of NSU, Mr. Ahmad’s first tenure as Chairman (2023-24) was noted for establishing transparent and integrity-driven policies, putting strong focus on institutional governance practices and championing a roadmap to achieving higher educational standards and research practices at NSU.

He is a member of North South University Trust and a founder life-member of North South University Foundation.

NSU hosts case study-based learning programme for Nepalese govt officials

North South University hosted a case study-based learning programme for Nepalese government officials. Public sector officials from Nepal have joined the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University to participate in a five-day training programme on Case Study Based Learning (CBL) from 28 April to 2 May. Ghanshyam Bhandari, ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, attended the closing ceremony of the training programme. Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, dean (IC), the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Rizwan Khair, chair (IC), the Department of Political Science and Sociology and the course director, and Dr Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, North South University, were also present.

The event, which drew a large crowd, included a heartfelt mourning meeting where participants gathered to express their collective grief and respect for those who sacrificed their lives, said a press release. As the Chief Guest, Stephen Ibelli, public affairs counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, attended the seminar. In his speech, Ibelli highlighted the transformative impact of American education, stating, “World-class American education is truly life-changing. Bangladeshi students in the U.S. act as ambassadors, connecting the two countries through shared experiences.” The seminar was presided over by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who underscored the significance of higher education in developing global leaders.

Prof Atiqul Islam reappointed NSU VC for 3rd time

Professor Dr. Atiqul Islam has been reappointed as Vice Chancellor of North South University (NSU). Acharya President of the University. Sahabuddin appointed this. This appointment was announced in a notification of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education last Sunday. Atiqul Islam will serve as Vice-Chancellor till February 22, 2028. NSU Board of Trustees Chairman Javed Munir Ahmed congratulated Atiqul Islam on his re-appointment as Vice-Chancellor. Atiqul Islam serves as the Executive Dean and Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) of the Faculty of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He has served at the University of Sydney, NSW, Curtin University, Canterbury University and National University Singapore. Atiqul Islam graduated from Dhaka University with First Class and Post Graduate Degree. He received his PhD from the University of Sydney.

The speaker was Professor Niaz Asadullah, a visiting professor of economics at the University of Reading, UK, and a professorial fellow in the Department of Economics at NSU.
