Javed Muneer Ahmad re-elected as chairman of NSU Board of Trustees

Mr. Javed Muneer Ahmad has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of North South University (NSU) Trust for 2024-2025, effective from 1 July 2024. The announcement was made during the 13th Annual General Meeting of the NSU Trust on Sunday (30 June), reads a press release. This marks Mr. Javed Ahmad’s second term as Chairman following the Chancellor's appointment of the reconstituted NSU Board on August 16, 2022. A founding member of NSU, Mr. Ahmad’s first tenure as Chairman (2023-24) was noted for establishing transparent and integrity-driven policies, putting strong focus on institutional governance practices and championing a roadmap to achieving higher educational standards and research practices at NSU.

MA Kashem has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Southeast Bank PLC. He was unanimously elected chairman of the bank in its 743rd board meeting held on Sunday, said a press release. Kashem is the founder chairman and sponsor director of Southeast Bank PLC. He is the also the chairman of Rose Corner (Pvt.) Limited. He is a member of North South University Trust and a founder life-member of North South University Foundation.

The curriculum was launched at a function organized by the NSU BBA Program Office on October 3. The function was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Deans, Chairmen, Directors and other officials of various schools. BBA Program Director Dr. Mehe Z Rahman highlighted the significance of this innovative platform and said that it is a unique medium for students.

The programmed including the mangal shobhajatra, song, dance, Baul music etc. NSU VC Professor Atiqul Islam was the chief guest on the occasion. About 1,000 people, including teachers and students of the university, participated in this festival at the playground of North South University on May 11.

NSU hosts case study-based learning programme for Nepalese govt officials

North South University hosted a case study-based learning programme for Nepalese government officials. Public sector officials from Nepal have joined the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University to participate in a five-day training programme on Case Study Based Learning (CBL) from 28 April to 2 May. Ghanshyam Bhandari, ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, attended the closing ceremony of the training programme. Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, dean (IC), the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Rizwan Khair, chair (IC), the Department of Political Science and Sociology and the course director, and Dr Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, North South University, were also present.

The event, which drew a large crowd, included a heartfelt mourning meeting where participants gathered to express their collective grief and respect for those who sacrificed their lives, said a press release. Teachers, students, officials, and university employees took part in the mourning procession from NSU Shaheed Minar.

Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, attended the event as the chief guest, while former ambassador Major General (retd) Jamil D Ahsan Bir Protik and Major General (retd) Dr Sarwar Hossain, adjunct associate professor at NSU’s Department of History and Philosophy, were present as a discussant and keynote speaker, respectively. The session was chaired by NSU vice-chancellor Prof Atiqul Islam with NSU treasurer and vice-chancellor (acting) Prof Abdur Rob Khan also in attendance.

As the Chief Guest, Stephen Ibelli, public affairs counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, attended the seminar. In his speech, Ibelli highlighted the transformative impact of American education, stating, “World-class American education is truly life-changing. Bangladeshi students in the U.S. act as ambassadors, connecting the two countries through shared experiences.” The seminar was presided over by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who underscored the significance of higher education in developing global leaders.
