| dc.description.abstract | North South University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences (NSU SHSS) hosted another session of its Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, as the keynote speaker on the theme "Gross National Happiness (GNH)." The ambassador highlighted Bhutan's governance structure, democratic development, legislative and cultural systems, and explained the nine domains and 33 indicators that form the GNH framework. She also demonstrated how Bhutan measures national happiness through comprehensive survey questionnaires and a structured scoring system. Chairing the event, NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury praised Bhutan for presenting an alternative development philosophy that prioritizes human well-being over wealth accumulation, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasar U. Ahmed commended Bhutan's systematic commitment to environmental conservation. The lecture provided valuable insights into Bhutan's unique development model and encouraged discussion on sustainable and people-centered approaches to national progress. | |
