- ItemOpen AccessNSU launches mental health support group(New Age, 2025-10-25) New AgeThe Counselling and Wellbeing Centre of North South University in collaboration with Kaan Pete Roi began training of the first batch of 25 students on the Mental Health Preliminary Response module at the NSU in Dhaka on Thursday. NSU proctor Professor Abdul Khaleque addressed welcome speech at the event. Clinical psychologist and national trainer of mental health first aid, Rubina Jahan, was the facilitator while head of training and outreach, KPR, Ashik Abdullah, co-facilitated the training. About 500 students will be trained in different training modules to improve mental health literacy, awareness, well-being and capacity building.
- ItemOpen AccessNSU observes World Mental Health Day 2025(The Daily Star, 2025-10-23) The Daily StarNorth South University (NSU) observed World Mental Health Day 2025 with a comprehensive program centered on promoting youth wellbeing. Organized by the Department of Public Health and the NSU Counseling & Wellbeing Center, with support from the NSU Public Health and Science Club, the day-long event integrated creative expression and scholarly dialogue to raise awareness about mental health issues among young people. Among the panelists were keynote speaker Dr. Ishakul Kabir, Program Officer of NCD and Mental Health at the WHO Country Office Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital; Professor Dr. Nazmul Hossain, Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME); Professor Abdul Khaleque, Proctor of NSU; and Dr. S. M. Saidur Rahman Mashreky, Associate Professor at NSU’s Department of Public Health. The session was chaired by Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer and Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of North South University. The program featured a poster exhibition showcasing student perspectives on mental health, alongside a panel discussion that explored emerging challenges and opportunities in youth mental wellbeing.

The event was arranged in partnership with the high commission of Pakistan in Bangladesh, highlighting a continued exchange of academic, cultural, and scholarly engagement between the two nations. MA Kashem, member, board of trustees and founder life member, NSU trust, attended the event as chief guest while Professor Baseera Ambreen, director, Institute of Urdu Language and Literature, Oriental College, University of the Punjab, Pakistan, was keynote speaker. The event was also graced by the presence of Muhammad Wasif, deputy high commissioner at the Pakistan high commission in Dhaka, and Md Quamruzzaman, country head and CEO of the National Bank of Pakistan in Bangladesh.Professor Abdur Rob Khan, treasurer, NSU, delivered the vote of thanks.

The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Founder Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of Board of Trustees at East West University. The inaugural ceremony also featured Ms. Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation, as Chief Guest. Universities such as North South University, Eastern University, Gopalgonj University of Science and Technology etc. earned recognition across categories, while EWU students excelled in every category.
