Graduates from private universities and medical colleges remain underrepresented in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) recruitment, accounting for only 1.34 per cent of the 43rd BCS recommendations, compared with 92.70 per cent from public universities. Dhaka University alone secured 30.51 per cent of the recommendations. Educationists attribute this disparity to differences in career priorities, family backgrounds, financial expectations, access to preparation resources, and perceptions of public service. Private university graduates tend to prefer private-sector employment or overseas opportunities, partly due to the lengthy and uncertain BCS preparation process. The report also highlights gender disparities, with men comprising 80.54 per cent and women 19.46 per cent of the 43rd BCS recommended candidates.
