10th int’l business genius Bangladesh held at NSU

Business Genius Bangladesh organised the Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology presents ‘10th International Business Genius Bangladesh 2025’ at the auditorium of North South University in Dhaka on Saturday. University Grants Commission of Bangladesh member Professor Tanzim Uddin was chief guest at the opening ceremony. Guest of honour of the ceremony was Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor, North South University, and AKM Zabed, COO, Dekko Foods Ltd. Special Guests of the ceremony was Khandker Md Nahin Mamun, chairperson and assistant professor, department of marketing and international business, North South University. Associate Professor M Abdullah Al Mamun, chief adviser, Business Genius Bangladesh, was the chair of the ceremony. The event’s event management partner was the Federation of Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management while the debate management partner was Bangladesh Debate Warriors.

In the recently released Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024, nine Bangladeshi universities on Asia top list. North South University (NSU) has emerged as the leading private university in Bangladesh, securing its position within the 351-400 band.

B-JET Centre begins 13th batch at NSU

The Career and Placement Center (CPC) of the North South University hosted the opening ceremony of the 13th batch of the Bangladesh Japan ICT Engineers Training Programme (B-JET) on Monday. Shinnusuke Tasaka, programme manager of B-JET, introduced the 34 newly selected trainees who underwent a competitive selection process, said a press release. B-JET equips trainees with Japanese language proficiency, cultural insights, study techniques, business etiquette, and technical knowledge.

Beyond Exam Anxiety held at NSU

The North South University’s Counselling and Wellbeing Centre has recently organised a workshop titled Beyond Exam Anxiety at the NSU in Dhaka. According to a recent survey, 66 per cent of university students have severe test anxiety. Counselling psychologist and assistant professor of Dhaka University Roufun Nahar was the facilitator of the event. Psychologists of the CWC assisted her as co-facilitators. Professor Abdul Khaleque, proctor of the university, encouraged students to focus on life skills in his closing remark.

BRAC Bank, NSU sign deal on cash management

BRAC Bank has partnered with North South University to deliver advanced cash management solutions to the latter, said a press release. Through this alliance, BRAC Bank will implement a tuition fee collection system for NSU through universal collection platform. To this end, BRAC Bank deputy managing director and corporate and institutional banking head Tareq Refat Ullah Khan and North South University vice-chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury signed an agreement at NSU premises in Dhaka recently. The cash management solution will also provide real-time transaction updates to enhance transparency and accuracy and allow for immediate reconciliation, the release said.

DU, JU, DIU, GAU, NSU jointly rank first in Bangladesh in THE rankings

The University of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, Daffodil International University, Gazipur Agricultural University and the North South University have jointly ranked first among all universities in Bangladesh in the United Kingdom-based Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. All five universities have been placed within the 801–1,000 band among the universities in the THE rankings released on Thursday. The NSU has once again secured its position as one of the leading universities in Bangladesh in the ranking. Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury stated that this milestone reflected the collective effort and commitment of NSU students, faculty, staff and alumni who continually strived for academic excellence and innovation.

Film festival celebrates Bangladesh, China friendship

The North South University and the embassy of the China in Dhaka jointly organise a there-day Dhaka–China Day 2025 Film Festival inaugurated at the NSU in Dhaka on Tuesday. The day began with the screening of the Chinese film ‘The Truth 1’ at the NSU main auditorium. Vice-chancellor of the NSU Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury expressed his gratitude to the cast and crew of ‘Utsab’ for their presence and praised the initiative as an important cultural exchange. The spotlight shifted to Bangladesh film industry with a special screening of ‘Utsab’, which drew attention with the presence of director Tanim Noor and film artistes Sadia Ayman, Syeda Tuhin Ara and Zahid Hasan. As part of the Dhaka–China Day 2025 celebrations, the film festival will continue until 25 September, with more screenings and discussions planned to engage audiences in both traditional and modern cinematic expressions from Bangladesh and China.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY- NSU hosts ‘Her Leadership, Her Legacy’

North South University’s Career and Placement Centre hosted a seminar titled Her Leadership, Her Legacy: Shaping Careers, Shaping Tomorrow, marking International Women’s Day, at the NSU in Dhaka on Sunday. Barrister Rashna Imam, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, was present as chief guest at the seminar. 'Her' (women) perspective was complemented by the academic leadership of Farzana Nahid, director of the Career and Placement Centre, alongside Professor Nazlee Siddiqui, director of MBA/EMBA programmes, and Nazia Manzoor, assistant professor and chairperson of the department of English and modern languages.

NSU architecture celebrates rural aesthetics in freshers’ reception event

The department of architecture at North South University has hosted freshers’ reception and farewell ceremony under the theme ‘Gram Bangla’, celebrating the cultural and spatial narratives of rural Bengal, at the NSU in Dhaka recently. The reception began with an orientation for freshers, introducing them to the department’s environment and collaborative learning culture. Graduating students were formally recognised during the second half of the event, where certificates and tokens of appreciation were presented by assistant professor Shahriar Iqbal Raj, chairperson of the department, along with senior faculty members.

The North South University’s English and modern languages department has recently concluded its two-day Winter Fest 2025 on the NSU campus in Dhaka. This ceremony was attended by guests, including NSU board of trustees member MA Kashem, vice-chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan, humanities and social sciences school dean Md Rizwanul Islam and DEML chairperson Nazia Manzoor, alongside faculty members and students. Following the ceremony, students and guests explored the Winter Fair, a bustling hub of student-led stalls, crafts, and interactive exhibits, which faculty and guests also enjoyed engaging with.

NSU holds Dhaka China Day 2024

Bangladesh and China would foster stronger ties in technology transfer and skills development, expert said at ‘Dhaka China Day 2024’ programme at North South University, jointly organised by embassy of China in Bangladesh and NSU on Tuesday. As chief guest, brigadier general (retired) M Sakhawat Hussain, adviser to the ministry of textiles and jute and the ministry of shipping, graced the event. Yao Wen, Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh and Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman of the NSU board of trustees, joined as special guests. Other dignitaries included Yasmin Kamal and Aziz Al Kaiser, members of the NSU board of trustees, professor Abdur Rob Khan, treasurer and acting pro-vice-chancellor, and Ma Xioyan, director of the Confucius Institute at NSU. The session was chaired by professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of NSU.
