The concept entails the challenges of using Information Technology to provide solutions for the emerging markets. While the technological advancements have brought tremendous benefits to the high-income consumers in developed countries; developing countries have been looking for innovative models to deal with their numerous social and infrastructural problems. The gap is therefore in designing solutions that fit into developing world reality. “Pathao”, one of the fastest growing ride hailing services from South East Asia seemingly found the sweet spot. Over the past few years, it has grown from a small startup to an organization that is currently valued at approximately $100 Million USD. Ascending from a parcel delivery service, it escalated to a ride-sharing business and has brought a major revamp in the lifestyle, as well as the economy of Bangladesh, Asia’s emerging tiger.Dhaka, country’s capital city had been dealing with dismal traffic system that eats up 3.2 million working hours per day with significant contribution to air pollution. But, Pathao has brought a stride of change to this by revolutionizing the use of motor bikes. This article investigates how Pathao’s smart and proactive business strategy has helped them fight against international powerhouses like Uber, and successfully contributed to the solution of public transport problem in Bangladesh.
