Cinematographer Rashed Zaman delivers talk on film, architecture at NSU

Renowned Bangladeshi cinematographer Rashed Zaman delivered a lecture at North South University (NSU) under the Department of Architecture’s Kathon Lecture Series, exploring the intricate connection between architecture and film. Drawing from his academic background in both fields and his professional journey from Hollywood to the Bangladeshi film industry, Zaman discussed how architectural thinking shapes visual diversity and spatial perception in cinema. He highlighted two core lessons from architecture—the ability to imagine in empty spaces and the value of discipline over intelligence—as essential to creative work. Zaman also noted key differences between the two disciplines, stressing that cinematography demands quicker visual evolution and involves more compromises due to environmental and budgetary constraints. Citing Polish cinematographer Witold Sobocinski, he shared a guiding principle that inspires his work: “Make pictures, don’t make photographs.”

Farida lauds China's achievements in poverty alleviation

New centres at NSU signal new leadership for Bangladesh's youths

Its recent inauguration of three academic centres focusing on social business, sustainability, and climate resilience marks more than institutional growth. The centres were launched in partnership with the Yunus Centre during the ‘Social Business Academia Dialogue’ and the 3Zero Club Convention held at NSU. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice- chancellor of NSU and chairman of Grameen Bank. North South University (NSU) has again secured its position as one of the leading universities in Bangladesh, jointly securing the number one position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, said a press release. NSU shares the top position with Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Gazipur Agricultural University, and Daffodil International University. All five universities have been placed within the 801-1,000 band in this year's global rankings, officially unveiled on 9 October. NSU top private varsity (QS Ranking news 2026)

North South University (NSU) has been ranked 149th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, published on Tuesday, says a statement. NSU's advancement from 155th last year to 149th this year marks a milestone - entering the Top 150 in Asia for the first time. Additionally, in the regional section of QS World University Rankings: Southern Asia, NSU has been ranked 18th, standing just behind the University of Dhaka (17th).
