Cinematographer Rashed Zaman delivers talk on film, architecture at NSU

Renowned Bangladeshi cinematographer Rashed Zaman delivered a lecture at North South University (NSU) under the Department of Architecture’s Kathon Lecture Series, exploring the intricate connection between architecture and film. Drawing from his academic background in both fields and his professional journey from Hollywood to the Bangladeshi film industry, Zaman discussed how architectural thinking shapes visual diversity and spatial perception in cinema. He highlighted two core lessons from architecture—the ability to imagine in empty spaces and the value of discipline over intelligence—as essential to creative work. Zaman also noted key differences between the two disciplines, stressing that cinematography demands quicker visual evolution and involves more compromises due to environmental and budgetary constraints. Citing Polish cinematographer Witold Sobocinski, he shared a guiding principle that inspires his work: “Make pictures, don’t make photographs.”

CIU launches Confucius Chinese Language Site

Farida lauds China's achievements in poverty alleviation

New centres at NSU signal new leadership for Bangladesh's youths

NSU dept of Architecture celebrates graduates at 26th convocation

North South University (NSU) successfully held its 26th Convocation on January 7, 2026, at the NSU campus, marking a significant academic milestone for the university and its graduating students. Dept. of Architecture Celebrates Graduates at NSU’s 26th Convocation 2026. The Honourable Adviser to the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, attended the ceremony as the Convocation Chair. At the same time, Professor SMA Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, delivered the convocation address. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member of the UGC, was present as a special guest. During the Convocation, among the graduate students, the Department of Architecture proudly celebrated the graduation of 36 students. Mr. Nahin Iqbal Chowdhury attained the highest CGPA in the Department of Architecture and was awarded Summa Cum Laude, marking an outstanding academic achievement.

NSU earns recognition across key disciplines

North South University (NSU) has continued to strengthen its academic reputation in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, earning recognition across several key disciplines, said a press release. This year, NSU's most notable achievement is in Economics and Econometrics, where it has been ranked in the 301-350 band globally, making it the top-ranked university in Bangladesh in this area.Economics. NSU also performed well in Business and Management Studies (351-400), and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (401-450), where it stands as the top private university of the country. In Social Sciences and Management, NSU has been placed in the 451-500 range, thereby continuing to hold its position as the top private university in Bangladesh in this area. In Computer Science and Information Systems, NSU has been ranked in the 551-600 rank band, making it one of the top private universities here in this discipline.

NSU hosts Quran Conference and Seerah Exhibition 2025

North South University (NSU) hosted the "NSU Quran Conference and Seerah Exhibition 2025" at the NSU Plaza Area recently, bringing together prominent Islamic scholars and university leadership to discuss the relevance of Quranic teachings in contemporary life. The grand conference featured distinguished speakers including Shaykh Ahmadullah, Islamic scholar and chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation; Dr Mizanur Rahman Azhari, Islamic scholar and chairman of Hasanah Foundation; Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque; Maulana Abul Bashar Md Saiful Islam, general secretary of the Insaf Foundation; and Professor Mokhter Ahmad, Islamic scholar and director of Daffodil Islamic Centre. On the same day, a discussion titled "Muslimahs' Challenges in the Modern Era" was held at the NSU Central Auditorium. The Seerah Exhibition was held from December 8 to 12 at the NSU Exhibition Hall.

The keynote speaker was Irina Schoulgin Nyoni, ambassador for human rights, democracy and the rule of law at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. NSU top private varsity (QS Ranking news 2026)

North South University (NSU) has been ranked 149th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, published on Tuesday, says a statement. NSU's advancement from 155th last year to 149th this year marks a milestone - entering the Top 150 in Asia for the first time. Additionally, in the regional section of QS World University Rankings: Southern Asia, NSU has been ranked 18th, standing just behind the University of Dhaka (17th). Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, remarked that this achievement is a testament to the collective effort and dedication of the entire NSU community, students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
