26th convocation of North South University: Private university cost shuts out talent: Abrar

Education adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, on Wednesday, said that the high cost of private university education continued to exclude many talented students while chairing the 26th convocation of North South University held on the university campus in Dhaka. Highlighting the leadership roles of NSU alumni in business, finance, law, technology, development, media, academia, and public policy across cities such as Dhaka, Singapore, London, Toronto, and Sydney, he said, their work reflects Bangladesh’s booming presence as a source of skilled and globally competitive leadership. University Grants Commission chairman Professor SMA Faiz was the convocation speaker and UGC member Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossen was the special guest.

The first convocation of North South University was held on Wednesday at the Army Stadium in Dhaka. President and Chancellor of the University Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed called upon the students to become good citizens and characters to contribute to the development of the country. Founder President of North South University Musleh Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome address. Chairman of Board of Governance MA Awal, University of Southern Indiana President H. Ray Hoopes also spoke on the occasion.

NSU holds freshers orientation programme Fall 2025 Semester

North South University hosted its fall semester orientation programme on its campus in Dhaka on Wednesday. In the programme, 94 students were awarded scholarships at varying rates, including 100 per cent merit scholarships granted to 35 students in recognition of their exceptional performance in the admission test. Md Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, attended the event as chief guest. NSU board of trustees of chairman Aziz Al Kaiser attended as special guest while NSU board of trustees member Benajir Ahmed attended as guest of honour at the event, which was chaired by NSU vice-chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury. NSU registrar Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome speech to the new students.

NSU 25th convocation held in Dhaka

North South University (NSU) held its 25th convocation ceremony at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, Dhaka yesterday. Over 8,000 students were awarded graduation degrees at the event, according to a press release. Education and Planning Adviser Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud presided over the ceremony, conferring degrees on behalf of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The event featured a welcome address by Prof Md Mamun Molla, chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics. Gwyn Lewis, the UN resident coordinator for Bangladesh, was the convocation speaker. Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees, congratulated the graduates. NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury also addressed the gathering.

NSU confers degrees on over 3,000 graduates at 26th convocation

North South University (NSU) held its 26th convocation ceremony on January 07 at its campus, awarding degrees to more than 3,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, adviser to the Ministry of Education, chaired the convocation, whilst Professor Dr SMA Faiz, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), delivered the convocation address. Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossen, UGC Member, attended as a special guest. The ceremony was attended by NSU's Board of Trustees, including Chairman Aziz Al Kaiser, alongside Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Nasar Uddin Ahmed, and Treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan. Professor Md Mamun Molla from NSU's Department of Mathematics and Physics, serving as Convocation Marshall. Following the convocation speaker's remarks, the Deans of NSU's four schools-Professor AKM Waresul Karim (Business and Economics), Professor Md Rizwanul Islam (Humanities and Social Sciences), Professor Shazzad Hosain (Engineering and Physical Sciences), and Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra (Health and Life Sciences)-presented the degree candidates. Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar formally conferred the degrees.

NSU confers degrees to 3,322 students at 26th convocation

North South University (NSU) awarded degrees to 3,322 students, including 2,646 undergraduates and 676 postgraduates, at its 26th Convocation on the university campus on Wednesday. Prof SMA Faiz, chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, served as the convocation speaker. NSU Board of Trustees Chairman Aziz Al Kaiser said, “Today is a moment of pride. NSU holds MPPG and EMPG orientation programme

The Spring 2025 semester orientation programme for the 12th Batch of Master in Public Policy & Governance (MPPG) and 7th Batch of Executive Masters in Policy and Governance (EMPG) was held on 18 January at North South University (NSU). Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The orientation commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. Sk Tawfique M Haque, Director of SIPG, NSU. Following introductions by the new students, Dr Rizwan Khair, Associate Professor and Chair of PSS and Graduate Programme Coordinator (GPC) at SIPG, provided a comprehensive overview of the MPPG and EMPG programmes.
