North South University celebrated 'World Pharmacist Day'

North South University celebrated 'World Pharmacists Day' in honor of pharmacists worldwide. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Club of NSU organized the function on the university premises on Wednesday (September 25). The program was inaugurated by the chief guest, North South University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury. Also present was Professor Abdur Rab Khan, Treasurer and Acting Vice-Chancellor of North South University. Dean of the School of Health and Science of North South University Prof. Deepak Kumar Mitra, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Faculty Prof. Md. Mahbubur Rahman and NSU Student Affairs Director Saeed-uz-Zaman Khan.

North South University (NSU) on Saturday celebrated Bangla New Year 1431 and Baishakhi Mela showcasing the essence of Bengali culture. The programmed including the mangal shobhajatra, song, dance, Baul music etc. NSU VC Professor Atiqul Islam was the chief guest on the occasion. About 1,000 people, including teachers and students of the university, participated in this festival at the playground of North South University on May 11.

NSU hosts case study-based learning programme for Nepalese govt officials

North South University hosted a case study-based learning programme for Nepalese government officials. Public sector officials from Nepal have joined the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University to participate in a five-day training programme on Case Study Based Learning (CBL) from 28 April to 2 May. Ghanshyam Bhandari, ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, attended the closing ceremony of the training programme. Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, dean (IC), the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Rizwan Khair, chair (IC), the Department of Political Science and Sociology and the course director, and Dr Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, North South University, were also present.

NSU hosts event to pay tribute to martyrs, injured

North South University (NSU) held an event on Friday to pay tribute to the brave martyrs and those injured during the July Revolution of 2024. The event, which drew a large crowd, included a heartfelt mourning meeting where participants gathered to express their collective grief and respect for those who sacrificed their lives, said a press release. Teachers, students, officials, and university employees took part in the mourning procession from NSU Shaheed Minar.

A seminar titled ‘Bangladesh Liberation War 1971: Key Military Determinants of Our Success’ was held at the Syndicate Hall of North South University (NSU) in the capital on Thursday. Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, attended the event as the chief guest, while former ambassador Major General (retd) Jamil D Ahsan Bir Protik and Major General (retd) Dr Sarwar Hossain, adjunct associate professor at NSU’s Department of History and Philosophy, were present as a discussant and keynote speaker, respectively. The session was chaired by NSU vice-chancellor Prof Atiqul Islam with NSU treasurer and vice-chancellor (acting) Prof Abdur Rob Khan also in attendance.

North South University (NSU) hosted an insightful seminar on Monday on "Higher Education Opportunities in the USA," attracting an enthusiastic audience of students, faculty members, and distinguished guests. The event aimed to guide students aspiring to study in the United States, offering valuable insights into the application process and academic pathways available abroad, said a press release. As the Chief Guest, Stephen Ibelli, public affairs counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, attended the seminar. In his speech, Ibelli highlighted the transformative impact of American education, stating, “World-class American education is truly life-changing. Bangladeshi students in the U.S. act as ambassadors, connecting the two countries through shared experiences.” The seminar was presided over by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who underscored the significance of higher education in developing global leaders.

NSU’s economics dept holds dialogue on higher studies, career scopes

North South University (NSU) recently organized a youth dialogue event titled “Higher Studies and Career Prospects in Economics and Development Studies”. The event was organized by NSU’s Department of Economics along with their youth engagement partner, the Young Economists’ Forum (YEF), according to a press release. The speaker and resource person was Dr Niaz Asadullah, a visiting professor from the University of Reading, UK, and professorial fellow at NSU’s Department of Economics. Dr Asadullah began his talk by reminding the audience that economists love to be disruptive and economics, as a discipline, always invites disruptions.

SIPG - Policy debate on the future of Bangladesh

The South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) of North South University (NSU) organized a policy debate on the role and expectations of the interim government of Bangladesh at the university's plaza area last Wednesday. The debate discussed the post-revolution political situation and the challenges and opportunities of this change. University of British Columbia epidemiologist Prameet Ananya Chakraborty highlighted the lack of fair elections in Bangladesh. The moderator of the debate was Dr. Assistant Professor of Sociology and Peace Coordinator of SIPG Center for Peace Studies (CPS). Abdul Wahab.

Transboundary co-op key to resolving water issue: Speakers tell int’l confce at NSU

The inaugural session of a two-day international conference titled ‘Transboundary Rivers of South Asia: Fostering Regional Collaboration for Environmental Sustainability’ began at North South University on Tuesday. The event aims to address critical issues surrounding transboundary river management and environmental sustainability in South Asia. A total of 40 papers will be presented at the conference by authors from Bangladesh, Nepal, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Kenya. There are approximately 60 participants, of which 30 are international, mainly from India.
